Yes it is provocative and no – ABAP is innovating ( Hi Horst ) There are incredibly talentent people inside and outside SAP pushing to improve the language, toolset and culture to become the best that is can be and when they are finished they will go some more. Yes, ABAP is awesome and yes is does power half the planet if you believe SAP’s marketing department but being great is not enough – all languages need to improve and get better.Īm you saying that ABAP is not doing this? I mean that is a pretty provocative, click-baity title you put on this blog there Nigel. Let me provide a disclaimer for those that love ABAP to a fault ( Hi Michelle, Hi Jellana ). If you want to enjoy the rest of the story then fasten your seat belts, return your tray table to the upright position and hold on. If you want to skip to the next blog… go for it but first identify what culture is happening amongst your ABAPers or your offshore team.

The conversation that followed continued on for days across timezones picking up a whole lot of other voices and opinions on the way through. Shout out to for waving the flag as vigorously as possible. The tragedy is that VERY few or others are committers in the context of the #SAP ecosystem. Then (which is what I was hoping would happen ) Den looked into #AbapGit and dropped the following:Įarlier today I took a look at #abapgit. As I said in my tweet above it is my opinion that that is #AbapGit with a whole lot of whitespace until second. So Den was asking about what the new cool edgy thing was around SAP these days. It became an apache project which was qudos to the people driving it. Now for background #ESME was a Enterprise Social Media Experiment that happened around 2006-7ish and could have been something cool. #abapgit is the biggest non sap led thing happening in SAP (That is a blog for another day)Īnd where is the next #ESME team coming from?

I met back as part of the media and influencers team at Sapphire and Teched events around 2006.ĭennis was asking about the new ESME as part of a conversation about Diversity amoungst the SAP Mentors. The bear in this case was Dennis Howlett who has been a long time friend in the enterprisey space Bears for the most part are things that should be left to their own devices as my Canadian friends will attest.
